You have to see it! Cappadocia is the biggest tourist attraction in Turkey and a UNESCO World Heritage Site! The scenery reminds you of a fantasy film. Cappadocia was formed about 60 thousand years ago. The eruptions of volcanoes Erciyes, Gölludag and Hasan resulted in the formation of a rack of soft tufa from the solidified lava, thousands of years of wind and rain eroded the tufa and afterwards formed incredible mushroom shapes with hats, "Chimney Feys" and canyons and valleys. The unique places of Cappadocia are the underground cities carved in the rocks or the Christian churches in the caves of the Goreme Open-Air Museum. People used to carve shelters, churches, houses, stables and entire underground cities with their own ventilation and sewerage systems due to the ease of processing the volcanic tufa. Here people hid for centuries from enemy raids, religious persecution and other dangers. In Cappadocia there are 40 underground towns and settlements. They are open to the public.
